New Chief Executive at Healthworks

Healthworks is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Court as its new Chief Executive.  Based in Newcastle, Healthworks is one of the leading North East charities working with local communities to improve their health and wellbeing through social prescribing.  Its patron is Sir Michael Marmot, author of The Marmot Report which presented a robust and well-evidenced business case for national and local action to address health inequalities.

Most recently Paul has worked at a senior level across the NHS and Newcastle City Council, shaping policy and practice to improve outcomes for children and young people.  Previously, Paul has developed and led Sure Start Services, been a researcher influencing national policy, an NHS board member, and a committee member for BBC Children in Need.

Paul said:

‘I am delighted to be joining the organisation that I supported the development and formation of over 20 years ago. I truly believe in its vision of enabling and supporting communities across Tyne and Wear to narrow the gap in health inequalities. I’m looking forward to building on the great work of the recently retired Chief Executive, Sarah Cowling, and the team, and working with the Board, trustees, staff and volunteers to ensure we do even more in supporting the health of communities across the region.’

Joel Marks, Chair of Trustees, said:

“I am delighted that Paul is joining Healthworks as we head towards celebrating our 25th anniversary, when his experience and enthusiasm will be so important to the next stage in our work. The Trustees are looking forward to working with Paul and, together, enabling our staff and volunteers to strive further to reduce health inequalities.”

Paul started in the role on 1st October 2019.
