Everyone has choices but taking responsibility to make good choices can be harder for some than for others – we can help!

Healthworks Food Skills Team

We offer a range of activities in venues throughout Newcastle

The team delivers a range of courses, click on each activity for more information:

  • Starting Solids – practical advice about moving your baby from breast or bottle feeding to solid food.
  • Make it Bake it Shake it – a rolling programme  which involves parents/carers and children together in a safe, friendly, and accessible local venue, where they can enjoy crafts, healthy cooking and get active together
  • Cooking from Scratch – basic healthy meals using seasonal fruits and vegetables.
  • Budget Cooking – practical healthy cooking on a budget with tips to reduce food cost.
  • Love Food Hate Waste – workshops with tips on reducing food waste.
  • Halogen / Microwave Cooking – different ways of cooking from scratch that saves you time and money.
  • Food Hygiene – basics of food storage and hygiene. An accredited course. Everyone who completes the course gains useful skills and a certificate.

Several courses include the option to join in a physical activity – a key part of leading a healthier life.  This gives you enough confidence to take part in other exercise sessions in centres wherever you live.

We work alongside other projects where people grow their own food and make the most of the green spaces near their homes. Our recipes include food we’ve grown ourselves. Super healthy!

Our Food Skills team is involved with special needs groups, helping them break down barriers so they too, learn cooking skills, lead a healthier lifestyle, meet new people and become more independent. We support local primary schools in the area encouraging children to Eat Well, Move More, Live Longer.

These projects are supported by Community Family Hub West Team, Change4Life, Newcastle City Council and Community Foundation.
