Jenni Thompson

We’d like to say farewell and good luck to Jenni Thompson who’s leaving after having her baby.

Jenny Trett

Congratulations to Jenny Trett who’s now permanently joining the Breastfeeding Peer Support Coordinators team.

Claire Wright

We’d like to wish Claire Wright well in starting her maternity at the beginning of June and look forward to meeting the new arrival, probably at her local breastfeeding social group!

Congratulations to all the newly qualified Breastfeeding Peer Support Volunteers:
Shaheda Ahmed, Katy Assi, Lisa Nicolson, Eleanor Blandford,Vicky Smith,
Nicola Freeman, Deborah Chambers, Lisa Pattinson, Christine Kinghorn,
Louise Forster, Monika Jawale,Annie Rutter and Shanaz Begum

All attended a 10 week course, covering aspects of the importance of breastfeeding, how to support women to breastfeed successfully and how to overcome common issues. They also complete a mandatory session for Newcastle Safeguarding Children Board. There’s then a graduation celebration event at the end.

The whole team looks forward to supporting you on your volunteering journey with us!

This is what the volunteers had to say about the Breastfeeding Peer Support Core Training sessions.

‘Great course, great staff, great venue! I can’t wait to start making a contribution and support other mums’

‘The training taught me so many new things; I just wish I’d known earlier’

The delivery of the training was relaxed and professional, without too much paper and written work as this would have been very difficult with our children around.

It’s all very well to be told that ‘breast is best’ but sometimes mothers need support and advice to succeed in breastfeeding. That’s why the peer support team and volunteer training is invaluable for our community.’

New Breastfeeding Peer Support Core Training Dates

Breastfeeding Peer Support Core training starts at Byker Sands Children’s Centre on 16 July 12:30 – 2:30pm,.

The course runs for 9 weeks with a graduation event at the end.
