2020 marked our 25th anniversary, and that year more than ever, highlighted the importance of our work in improving health and life outcomes for local people.
This Annual Report celebrates our work during 2019-2020 and the difference it made to the people we worked with. It represents the start of a new period, from a change in leadership to a modernisation of our branding including our website.
We are very proud to have one of the world’s leading researchers into the impact of inequalities on health and wellbeing as our Healthworks Patron – Professor Sir Michael Marmot. He has kindly found time in his busy schedule to send a message of support to us for our 25th anniversary annual report.
You can read his full message in the Annual Report and some of what he has to say is shown below.

This is our first comprehensive digital Annual Report, and we have included a number of case studies that illustrate how our work has made a difference to people of all ages. We hope you enjoy reading it!
Celebrating 25 Years of Healthworks
Our plans for commemorating our 25th year somewhat changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we still had much to celebrate! In this Annual Report we take a look back over our history, from starting off as a small local project in the west end of Newcastle to working across the region as we do today.
You can see a brief history of Healthworks in our report, which illustrates just how far we’ve come!
As we approach the end of 2020, we want to thank all of our past and present staff, directors, volunteers, trustees, funders, partners and friends who have supported us over the last 25 years. A special thanks to Professor Chris Drinkwater – without his vision, we wouldn’t be where we are!
