Wellbeing Naturally

I’ve lost four stone in the last six months since getting involved with this activity and love it so much I asked the Estate Manager if I could come up in between our weekly group sessions on my own!

HealthWORKS Newcastle is working in partnership with Minsteracres to improve people’s health and the environment at the same time.
Our Exercise on Referral assessor’s signpost interested clients to the service but they can also self refer.

Individuals try a range of practical projects and are given opportunities to learn new skills.
Tasks include:

  • planting
  • growing
  • clearing
  • fence building
  • building bird boxes
  • stone walling
  • tree felling
  • day trips
  • conservation work and much more.

Everyone is free to work at their own pace and getting out and about helps people to increase their physical and mental wellbeing as well as increasing their self esteem through learning new skills.

Volunteers in the group are encouraged to be proactive and find new activities that the group can take part in. Volunteers can also work towards becoming volunteer leaders, helping to provide support for the group and hopefully helping the group to become self-sustainable.

Transport is provided free of charge by volunteers, with pick ups from The Lemington Centre and The Health Resource Centre.

The group, currently, consists of 14 – 16 regular volunteers that visit Minsteracres every Friday.

The volunteers have given fantastic feedback, showing improvements in their confidence and mental wellbeing.

Of the regular attenders:
69% Male,31% Female,77% from 30% most deprived areas,62% suffering from mental health problems
