Public Health

 

City and Guilds Level 3 Health Trainer Certificate (15 Credits)

 

Over 4/5 Core Knowledge sessions this course provides the underpinning knowledge for the City & Guilds level 3 health trainer certificate. This includes:

• The Role and Responsibilities of a Health Trainer
• Engaging Communities
• Communicating with people about Health Improvement
• Working 1-1 with Clients

During the course you will be registered with City & Guilds and be given an assessor to gain the qualification. You will then gather evidence within your portfolio; your assessor will support you during this process. We expect you to achieve the full qualification within 6 months of registration, though many learners achieve it more quickly.

Includes Core Knowledge Training, Assessment and City and Guilds Certification. Maximum of 14 learners per course. Where appropriate individual learner places can be booked.

 

RSPH Level 2 ‘Understanding Health Improvement’ (1 credit)

 

This Award helps you to perform an active health promotion role, and to have the knowledge, skills and confidence to approach patients at all opportunities with brief health advice in order to make every patient contact a health improvement contact.

It provides the underpinning knowledge necessary to support people to make positive changes in their lives and to maintain a healthier lifestyle. As part of the award participants will gain:

• An introduction to the basics of promoting health and wellbeing
• Understanding of the barriers people face in making lifestyle changes
• Knowledge of how to help people make changes to improve their health
The Award is based on a two day training course, including a 45 minute multiple choice assessment on day 2 (Learners must attend both days). The training days themselves consist of a mixture of presentations, group discussions and group activities.

Includes RSPH certification. Maximum of 14 people per course

If you would prefer course can be run over 1 day (9am-5pm, including some individual pre-course learning with refreshments and certification). Maximum of 12 learners per course.

 

Level 3 One Awards ‘Health Improvement: Brief Interventions’ (3 credits)

Delivered over 2 full days this course is designed to give learners the skills to carry out Brief Interventions with individuals, in specific areas of health improvement. The course covers the skills required to carry out brief interventions, as well as the background knowledge & understanding of the theories & evidence.

• Understand the principles of brief interventions
• Understand behaviour change theory
• Be able to use the appropriate communication skills within brief interventions
• Understand the use of screening tools within own area of work
• Understand referral pathways beyond brief interventions

Learners will need to complete workbooks, collect information and practise their skills to build a portfolio of evidence to achieve qualification. This can be completed within the 2 days.

Includes One Awards Assessment and Certification. Maximum of 14 learners per course.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

 

Mental Health First Aid

MHFA is a 12 hour intensive training course usually delivered over 2 days.
MHFA does not teach people to be therapists. However, it does teach people how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, how to provide initial help and how to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.
The course includes individual sessions on:
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Suicide
• Psychosis
• Self Harm

Delivered through trainer presentations, group activities and DVD clips, this course is suitable for both individuals and for block bookings by organisations.

Includes MHFA England Manual. Maximum of 14 learners per course.

 

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Similar to Mental First Aid, Youth MHFA tailors materials to people working with, living or caring for young people between 11 and 18. Previous learners on this course include School Nurses, Youth Workers, Teachers, Drug & Alcohol Workers and Student Counsellors.

The course includes key areas such as:

• Depression and Anxiety
• Psychosis
• Eating Disorders
• Suicide and Self Harm
• Alcohol & Substance Misuse

Includes MHFA England Manual. Maximum of 14 learners per course.

 

Manage Your Stress

In 2013 Stress cost the UK Economy nearly £6.5bn with 10.4million days lost to stress. In this session we look at:

• What is stress?
• What fills your stress bucket?
• Identifying your Triggers
• An introduction to Positive Psychology and Mindfulness
• Coping Strategies and Promoting Positive Mental Health
• Making a Wellbeing Plan

Delivered through trainer presentations and group activities, this training can be run as a half or full day course, depending on your requirements.

 

Level 3 One Awards ‘Helping People Make Healthier Choices’ (4 credits).

Delivered over 3 full days this course is designed for Health Champions, Health Advocates and people wanting to develop a career in Health Improvement / Health Trainer services. You will:

• Understand the role of a Health Trainer
• Know how to promote the benefits of making lifestyle changes
• Understand factors influencing health & wellbeing
• Develop working relationships within communities

Learners will need to complete workbooks, collect information and practise their skills to build a portfolio of evidence to achieve qualification. This can be completed within the 3 days.

Includes One Awards Assessment and Certification. Maximum of 14 learners per course.
